Having a dental phobia is neither unusual nor uncommon, with large numbers of people suffering from the problem across the world. A visit to the dental surgery may not be something that is approached with enthusiasm for many, but for others it presents a simply traumatic and terrifying prospect and one which will be avoided until the inevitable deterioration in oral health becomes too severe to ignore any longer.

With the options available in today’s modern sedation dentistry practices, a phobia of the dental chair need not be something that prevents regular and stress-free treatments required for both hygiene and cosmetic purposes.

Treatments in laser dentistry offer a pain free and unobtrusive approach to many of the old processes of root canal sterilisation and many gum disease treatments with its sterilising applications. Not only do methods in laser treatment offer maximum comfort to the patient, lessening their need for anxiety, but leave them feeling that they have received the necessary attention with little or no discomfort during or after the procedure.

For more intensive surgery and patients who feel unable to entertain the idea of dental treatment altogether, options in sedation and sleep dentistry offer the chance to remove all experience from the procedure completely.

Whether opting for partial or complete sedation, your dental phobia can swiftly become a thing of the past with the use of simple anaesthetics, allowing you to remain pain-free throughout and at a level which can be conscious or unconscious, depending on your needs.

The result is the effective application of necessary dental attention, leaving you feeling refreshed, renewed and in an environment that is relaxed, calm and comfortable form start to finish.

Thanks to the passionate approach of your sedation dentist, you can ensuring that your needs are met and dealt with in the most sensitive and compassionate way, whilst achieving the treatment you require for optimum oral health and vitality.

Teeth play an essential role in our health, but for some of us anxiety or fear of dental work can prevent us from receiving the adequate dental care we really need. With sedation dentistry you no longer need to feel anxious or concerned about your visit to the dentist.

Sedation cosmetic dentistry is an ideal option if you have experienced problems becoming numb with usual dental injections or have a fear of needles. It is also beneficial if you have sensitive teeth or require multiple dental procedures, such as a complete smile makeover.

Sedation dentistry it is also an Ideal option for those who have sensitive teeth have strong gag reflexes and hate the noise, smells and tastes associated with a dental treatment. Patients are more able to undergo long, complex dental procedures, sleeping throughout the treatment. Completely safe, the facility for sedation during treatment leaves no memory of the procedure.

Sedation dentistry will make you feel completely relaxed and insure you have a pain free dental procedure. Sedation dentistry has many other benefits for those who suffer from dental anxieties. Sedation allows for less recovery time from dental surgeries and reduces the chance of any nausea.

A Sedation dentist can help eliminate your dental anxieties and fear allowing you to receive the dental care you require. If you are hesitant to receive dental treatments you really require because you have a dental fear or are anxious about undergoing long and complicated dental procedures, sedation dentistry can make you feel comfortable during the entire dental treatment.

Sedation dentistry and Sleep Dentistry are great alternatives for those who suffer from fear, anxiety and phobias stemming from dental appointments. Sleep Dentistry is a contemporary technique that provides a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for people receiving dental treatments. Sedation Dentistry and Sleep dentistry enables patients to become drowsy and generally sleep throughout their whole dental treatment, avoiding the common apprehension known as dental phobia.

Most patients, who have utilised Sedation Dentistry during a procedure, are those who dislike dental Injections, gag easily, detest the notice of dental equipment and have sensitive teeth. Sedation dentistry is also effective if a patient needs to undergo a complex dental procedure or a treatment that will consume a long period of time. Sedation is a process used to establish a relaxed, easy and calm state through the use of sedatives and it can be administered in a variety of ways. IV sedation is both safe and effective when administered by a trained professional.

Sedation Dentistry actually begins about an hour prior to your dental treatment. A sedative is administered to the patient and after a short period the patient will become very relaxed and enter a sleep-like state. During certain dental treatments anaesthetic is will still be administered to the patient

Like all dental procedures, sedation has progressed significantly in the last few years and we have three kinds of sedation available at in addition to local anaesthetic. If dental phobia is a concern for you then sedation dentistry may be an option for you as it eliminates, the concern for those who have a sever dental phobia that would previously have been. If you want to conquer your fear of going to the dentist then it might be worth considering sedation dentistry for your next dental treatment

For many people and possibly yourself, a fear of the dentist is very common and sometimes you are misguided about how to deal with this. Most people choose never to visit the dentist because of this, and therefore suffer with poor dental hygiene due to the fact they do not have a regular check up of their teeth and mouth.

These fears may have been triggered from a number of things. It could be a childhood experience where you were made to fear the dentist, and this has grown with you through the years, alternatively, it could be a complex procedure carried out previously that may has left you with fear, some discomfort or maybe just did not go to plan, leaving you feeling weary of whether a dentist could have you feeling safe and secure again during a dental procedure.

There are a number of procedures to help you feel at ease while undergoing a procedure at the dentist. You can have injections to numb the problem areas before treatment, but if you do not feel that this will suffice, you can be literally put to sleep. Conscious sedation dentistry means that you are asleep while still being awake and feel virtually no pain.

Sleep dentistry can be used for a number of procedures including dental implants, porcelain veneers or just general dentistry procedures. Whatever your fear may be whether it is that you feel you are not in control or that you may have a high gag reflex that means you may be sick once a dentist starts a procedure; sleep dentistry may be the solution to all of your problems.

You will be constantly monitored while under sedation, and your care will be our main priority throughout the entire procedure. Do not feel worried about being drowsy and sleepy after the procedure, you will be allowed to recover at your own pace, until you feel happy with yourself and the work that has been undertaken.

Fortunately, that scenario is a thing of the past. Now, techniques, technologies and materials have all progressed and have taken us to where we are now. The era of Pain Free Dentistry.

As well as Local Anaesthetic and Nitrous Oxide options that are effective enough against 80% of our treatments, we are also able to use ‘Conscious Sedation’. Conscious Sedation essentially means you go to ‘sleep’ whilst still being awake. This is a safe technique and throughout the procedure you are constantly monitored.

Better than anaesthetic is that we now utilise lasers in a great number of treatments. Lasers may be used in a number of oral treatments, including

The removal of decay

Fluoride Treatment

Root Canal Sterilisation

Gum Disease Treatments

Tooth Whitening

Surgical Procedures

Lasers may also be utilised to sterilise teeth, increasing patient comfort. In addition, its general benefits are that bleeding may be reduced, swelling may be controlled and postoperative discomfort may be limited.

So if you are worried about visiting the dentist you probably shouldn’t. We’ve removed pain out of the situation.
